Welcome to the first edition of Habitat Connection! We’re excited to bring you a monthly look at what’s happening with Habitat for Humanity of North Idaho—what’s coming up, where we need volunteers, ways you can get involved, and a few things happening behind the scenes. Whether you’re a Home Candidate, volunteer, Family Partner, donor, supporter, or simply someone who believes in Habitat’s mission, there’s a place for you here.

WHAT’S HAPPENING AT HABITAT

Duffield Place Building C — Almost Home! Construction at 2nd Street / Duffield Place continues to make HUGE progress, and we’re getting closer to seeing Building C completed! Once construction is finished—but before the homes are sold—we plan to hold a special Open House for Building C so our community can come see the finished homes and get a firsthand look at what your support helps make possible. Anticipated: December 2026. More details will be announced as we get closer to completion, so stay tuned!

GET INVOLVED: VOLUNTEER WITH HABITAT

There are lots of ways to give your time, whether you have an hour here and there or want to become a regular volunteer:

  • Volunteer at the ReStore
The Habitat ReStore is one of the easiest and most flexible ways to volunteer. Open Monday–Saturday | 9:00 AM–5:00 PM. No advance sign-up is needed. Volunteers can work a minimum of one hour per shift and are welcome to stay longer—even all day! It’s a great option when you have an unexpected free afternoon, want to volunteer on a regular basis, or simply have an hour or two to give.
  • Help at Duffield Place — 2nd Street Construction
Our Building C construction site is currently open for volunteers. Monday–Friday | 7:30 AM–3:30 PM. Cleanup help is especially appreciated! If Greg, Dylan, or Brad are onsite, feel free to ask if they need help with something specific. If they aren’t immediately available, grab a broom and help tackle some cleanup. Come ready to work, learn something new, and see Habitat homebuilding in action!
  • Weekly Office Cleaning
We’re also looking for someone who may be interested in helping keep our Habitat office clean on a weekly basis. (1-2 hours per week.) Cleaning supplies provided! Approximately 1–2 hours per week. We provide all cleaning supplies. If you enjoy keeping things clean and organized and would like a simple, consistent way to support Habitat, we’d love to hear from you!

SWEETHEARTS BALL 2027

Planning is about to begin for our biggest annual fundraiser! Want to Help Us Plan It? The Sweethearts Ball Committee will begin meeting: Monday, September 28, 5:00–6:00 PM. We’re looking for committee members who are interested in helping us brainstorm, plan, create engagement opportunities, and make the 2027 event something special. Our first meeting will be all about planning, ideas, and engagement. You don’t have to be an event-planning expert—we want people who are willing to bring ideas, enthusiasm, and a little creativity to the table!

WE NEED FAMILY PARTNERS!

Habitat for Humanity isn’t just about building houses. It’s about building relationships and helping families navigate the journey to homeownership. We currently have 16 families in our Homeownership Program, and 5 families are currently without a Family Partner.

What is a Family Partner?
A Family Partner acts as a mentor and support person for a Home Candidate throughout their Habitat journey. They help families stay connected, navigate the program, celebrate milestones, and provide encouragement along the way. We’re looking for people who are willing to build a genuine relationship with a family and help them work toward successful homeownership. Family Partners don’t need to have all the answers—but they do need to have their own financial and homeownership foundation in place so they can provide the stability, perspective, and mentorship their family needs. If you’ve owned a home, understand the responsibilities that come with homeownership, have a solid handle on your own household budget, and enjoy helping others succeed, you may be a great Family Partner.

The ReStore Corner

The ReStore is HIRING! Know someone looking for a job? The Habitat ReStore is currently looking to hire! Send them our way to the ReStore to pick up an employment application. 176 W. Wyoming Ave., Hayden, ID 83835

HABITAT + COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

Did you know Habitat can accommodate the 20 hours per week of community engagement required for individuals participating in the Idaho Medicaid and SNAP programs? If you know someone who needs to complete community engagement hours, Habitat may be able to provide meaningful volunteer opportunities. Regular volunteer applications must be completed before beginning. This can be a great opportunity to give back to the community while gaining experience, building connections, and supporting Habitat’s mission.

WANT TO BE PART OF WHAT’S NEXT?

There are always more ways to get involved—whether that’s volunteering, joining a committee, becoming a Family Partner, helping behind the scenes, or simply sharing Habitat’s mission with someone who needs to hear about us. Your time, skills, ideas, and connections can help build more than houses. They help build a stronger community. Keep an eye out for next month’s Habitat Connection for more updates, upcoming opportunities, and ways you can get involved! Thank you for being part of the Habitat for Humanity of North Idaho community.
